Ethnic Notions The film Ethnic Notions showed the harsh realities of racism in America from as far back as thraldom to the civil rights era as it pertained to oppression. Oppression in its virtually basic form is to exercise harsh dominion over, to be reckoned down per the dictionary. Nigger, Coon, Jigaboo, Darkie, Pickaninny, Mammy, Aunt Jemima, Sambo, and Uncle Tom nuclear number 18 all powerful examples of negative racial stereotypes. These were use to have-to doe with the psyche of all Blacks. Along with the path that many Whites used these stereotypes in film and stage to land and oppress them also used them in advertisement in mainstream America.
