The Controversial Problem Of Racism - 941 Words
Paper 4 Society today deals with a plethora of controversial problems. Controversial problems we face today include issues that deal with a few of the amendments: freedom of religion, freedom of the press, the right to bear arms, etc. Other issues that we deal with today could be medical, social, or the legalization of certain things. One controversial problem that I believe is very important and should be addressed is racism. In our society, the controversial problem of racism has been a topic quite often talked about. Cases of Martin Luther King Jr., President Obama, Rosa Parks, etc. emphasize this point. Alveda King, a civil rights activist, stated, ââ¬Å"Racism springs from the lie that certain human beings are less than fully human. Itââ¬â¢s a self-centered falsehood that corrupts our minds into believing we are right to treat others as we would not want to be treated.â⬠Today, we face racism everywhere and there are very different aspects to it. ââ¬Å"The word ââ¬Ëracismââ¬â¢ is like ketchup. It can be put on practically anythingâ⬠(Sowell). Our society faces racism that is in movies, magazines, campaigns, and other everyday things that may happen. Even with all of the racism that is in our society, there are solutions and measures that people can take to make a change. An example of racism that is quite common is profiling.
